Organizational Comments: "He's a big strong kid, he's advanced physically, he's been a big scorer where he's come from, He's a character kid, he's going to Notre Dame, it's a good school, and he's got a good family background." Jim Nill - Wings Assistant General Manager
What GRC says: 2012-13: After making such great progress, Riley fell back to earth a bit in the second half of the season. He looked to have hit the wall the end of February and scored just 1 goal and 4 points his last 22 games with a -8 rating in that span. This was hardly unexpected for the former Fighting Irish forward as most college players have to adjust to the longer pro season. He managed 13 assists in the postseason, most the benefit of playing with MVP Tatar and tallied three goals of his own.
2011-12: Sheahan left college early to start his pro career and made quite an impression in doing it. He has size, strength and speed and just needs to find his scoring touch to make a rapid move up the organization's depth chart. He was rewarded with a recall at the end of the season and made his NHL debut for Detroit. Spring 2012: Sheahan was a big scoring playmaker before going off to Notre Dame and re-inventing himself as one of the top defensive forwards in college hockey. If he can re-discover his scoring touch in a new system, he could move rapidly up the organization's prospect leaderboard. Getting his feet wet this fall will pay dividends as he is expected to turn pro next season.
Role: Power Forward
Projection: NHL 2nd or 3rd liner.
