#16 Ryan Oulahen
Pos: Center
D.O.B.: 03/26/85
From: Newmarket, Ontario
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 185
Shoots: Left
Drafted: 5th Rnd, 2003 draft by Detroit Red Wings
Acquired: Signed 3 yr contract with Detroit 7/29/05
Personal:
Plus: Good offensive instincts... Great Skater...Defensively Responsible...
Minus: Needs to play with more grit... Consistency, especially on offense...
Organizational Comments:"Really love him, there's a guy if we were a little less stacked, would have played a lot more, because he's responsible without the puck. He reminds me a lot of Matt Ellis, I'd love to see Ryan play a little grittier, a little more of a mean streak in there. I think he's going to get an opportunity to play down the road because of his responsibility and attention to defense" Griffins Head Coach Greg Ireland
What GRC says: 2007-08: Oulahen bristled under full time duty with the captain's C during the second half, but stepped up his offensive game when called upon. The third year forward played with a variety of linemates in a number of roles and remained effective, providing steady consistent play. He still needs to add a little more of an edge to his play to take the next level, but if he can maintain the offensive pace without losing his defensive presence, he is well on his way there.
2006-07: The most improved player on the team according to Coach Ireland, Oulahen really stepped up his game in the latter stages of the season. He added a little bit more of an edge to his calling card defensive game, but it was on the other side of the puck that he made his biggest steps. Due to injury and recall, he found himself centering the team's number one line for most of February, and accounted for himself well, averaging a point per game. He has firmly placed himself on the Red Wings radar for the future.
2005-06: Ryan beat out Todd Jackson for a regular role on the club, and the first year center played reasonably well in limited ice time. After seeing glimpses of his potential this season, expect Oulahen to more than double his offensive numbers next year.
Role: Two-Way Forward
Projection: Checking Forward
