#9 Francis Pare
Pos: Center
D.O.B.: 06/30/87
From: Lemoyne, PQ
Height: 5'10
Weight: 185
Shoots: Right
Drafted: Undrafted
Acquired: Signed contract with Grand Rapids (AHL) 6/13/08
Personal:
Plus: Good skater lacking breakaway speed... Superior on-ice vision... More known as playmaker despite goal totals... Works well in front on the powerplay...
Minus: Undersized... Big numbers in the QMJHL don't necessarily translate to the NHL... Inconsistent and prone to slumps...
Organizational Comments: "He's a kid that can play everywhere. Left wing. Right wing. Center. He's very versatile and he has a great touch around the net. If he gets open for just a second, the scoring chances he produces are very good ones." Griffins Coach Curt Fraser
What GRC says: 2012-13: A notoriously streaky scorer for most of his Griffins career, Frankie had an up and down second half, and then went stone cold after the second round of the playoffs. His bad puck luck reached epic proportions as he missed open nets and back door passes. Pare kept a positive attitude and kept working hard and was rewarded, scoring the game-winner in game two of the finals. The cup victory was bittersweet for the longest serving Griffin as he was not re-signed after the season and left the organization for Finland.
2011-12: Frankie got off to another slow start before really lighting it up in the second half. The streaky sniper saved his best for last, scoring at a torrid pace the last 20 games to try and grab the last playoff spot. When he is on, Pare is a speedy, slippery scorer who goes to the net; his consistency and defensive game however remain works in progress. He has one year left on his current deal and will again be counted on to carry a large part of the offensive load. 2010-11: Pare upped the ante in the second half, living up to the flying Frenchman moniker. The diminutive sniper caught fire down the stretch notching 14 goals and 28 points. He also managed to shore up his defensive game after falling down in that department the first 40 games. He showed some chemistry with Johnson and was a big factor in the Griffins offense. He has probably played well enough to earn another contract and another opportunity to crack the 30 goal mark.
2009-10: A gifted scorer and playmaker, Pare didn't seem to be able to get his offense firing consistently at the level he is capable. He still worked hard and brought his very mature defensive game, but for a player whose bread and butter is scoring, he didn't have the year he wanted. 2008-09: Pare forced his way into the lineup with a torrid first half and just continued to get better from there. A slight dip in his numbers can be attributed to both of his normal linemates missing significant portions of the second half with injuries. The diminutive center continued to excel, tying Abdelkader for the team record in rookie goals with 24. Frankie needs to work on his quickness for next season, but with a new NHL contract in his pocket, should have no shortage of motivation.
Summer 2008: Pare put up some big numbers in the QMJHL, garnering league MVP and a first all star team birth. It remains to be seen whether his game will translate to the pro level where he has less time and space to make plays. If he can make the adjustment he should bring some skill to the team.
Role: Playmaking Winger
Projection: NHL 3rd liner
