Another Shaky Effort by McCollum Dooms GriffinsÉ

December, 17th, 2010

The Griffins had a strong first period, jumping out to a 1-0 lead and fell back allowing five goals to the visiting Peoria Rivermen. Thomas McCollum had a rough night between the pipes and seemed to lose his confidence after giving up a weak goal in the second. Frankie Pare continued his hot hand, adding 2 goals on the night for Grand Rapids.

Grand Rapids got the only goal of the first period, the first of two by Pare on the night to take a one goal lead. Tatar put a clinic on in the second half of the period, driving to net and creating some incredible scoring chances. Shots on Goal: GR 10 - Peo 7.

Peluso slid the puck past McCollum to knot the score at one. Hensick gave the Rivermen the lead when he stroked a shot from the circle that just found the far side corner over McCollum. Shots on Goal: GR 11 - Peo 11.

A weak goal halfway through the third put the nail in the coffin for Grand Rapids as Nesbitt beat McCollum. Tardif redirected a shot from the line and Pare was there to bury it for a powerplay goal to pull within one. Peluso scored his second of the game two minutes later to take back momentum on another goal that McCollum probably should have had. Arsene scored another of the same variety about a minute and a half later, and the Griffins limped off on the wrong side of a 5-2 decision. Shots on goal: GR 7 - Peo 5. For the Game: GR 28 - Peo 23.

Observations:

Not a lot of notes on this one, sorry, the holidays and family life have spoken for more of my time. You could certainly see the team deflate after playing so well early and having McCollum serve up a couple of softies.

Ehrhardt had another strong game, especially filling in up front. He used his wheels to advance the puck, and created some good scoring chances. He was rewarded with a little bit of time on the powerplay.

Tatar was very strong in the first period, playing with an aggressive edge. He did a good job of taking the puck to the net, and had several good scoring chances.
