Detroit Assigns Filppula and Ericsson
Griffins welcome All-star center and rookie defenseman...

The Detroit Red Wings today assigned Valtteri Filppula and Jonathan Ericsson to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Both players had impressive training camps this fall, but were injured and had to stay in Detroit until they were ready to play. Filppula, an AHL all-star last season was a favorite of Wing's coach Babcock and should privode a huge boost to the Griffins scoresheet. Ericsson, a 6'5" rookie defenseman from Sweden should add some size and offensive flair on the blueline.
Both players are expected to be available for the home opener on Saturday.
