Red Wings Make Final Cuts
Kolanos and Hussey assigned to Grand Rapids...

The parent Detroit Red Wings finalized their roster today, by deciding on the thirteen forward spot. The verdict: Brad Norton had made his way onto the roster at the expense of Kris Kolanos, Matt Hussey, and Valtteri Filppula. Norton, known more for his brawn, reportedly impressed Wings GM Ken Holland with his skills as well. Hussey and Kolanos will become big pieces of the Griffins offensive picture if they clear waivers on the way to the AHL. Filppula and rookie defenseman Jonathan Ericsson are Grand Rapids bound as well, as soon as they recover from minor injuries.

In other news the Wings also assigned defensemen Kyle Quincey and Derek Meech to Grand Rapids. Goaltender Logan Koopmans was assigned to the Toledo Storm (ECHL).

The Grand Rapids Griffins signed veteran blueliner Nick Naumenko to a professional tryout. Naumenko has played over 576 games in his career, and is known for his offensive game, an area the Griffins defense is lacking.
