Griffinscentral.com historical section unveiled...
By Jason Kasiorek

At long last the new historical section of Griffinscentral.com is now open. Everything from draft recaps to training camp rosters can be found in this exclusive content. The new section is divided into several parts; the main two are the history of hockey in Grand Rapids, and the history of the Wings development/farm system. This part of the site remains a work in progress, and new information will be added as time permits.

The Grand Rapids hockey history contains information on the previous incarnations of pro hockey in town. Starting with the EHL's Rockets in 1949-50, their move to the IHL in the 50's, the Blades and Owls in the 70's, right up until the present day Griffins. More research is being done on the Grizzlies who played in the early 80's and that information will be updated as appropriate.

The other major section of the site deals with the history of the Detroit Farm system. Here you will find a list of the Wing's all-time minor league affiliates, with rosters being added as we speak. Also available here are training camp rosters and information from all the way back to 1968. Trying to remember who that big guy was in camp who wore #60 five years ago? Ever wonder where they held camp prior to its current location in Traverse City? Now you can look it up. Training camp rosters are on line from 1968-1973 with more being added in a timely fashion.

Wonder who Detroit drafted after Steve Yzerman in 1983? Then the Draft History section is for you. Here you can find thumbnail sketches and pictures of Detroit's Draft picks over the years. Currently the years 1977-1984 are available on line with more coming as time allows.

Come in and take a look at this web exclusive content here. If you have information on the history of hockey in Grand Rapids that you don't see here feel free to contact me. Rosters, pictures, standings etc. are being compiled at this time as I work towards updating that section.
