Decisions Abound As Open Season Ahead
Unrestricted Free Agency Starts July 1...

The future should start taking shape in the next few weeks as the organization will have to make some decisions on quite a few personnel. The first important deadline is Monday, June 26th the deadline for qualifying offers to Group II Free Agents (RFA's). Detroit has already publicly announced qualifying offers to Johan Franzen, Dan Cleary and former Griffin Jason Williams. Several Grand Rapids players including Kopecky, Hudler, Bootland, Lebda, and McDonell are waiting for offers. Todd Jackson and Michael Hackert are two RFA's not expected to be offered a new deal.
Unrestricted Free Agency begins July 1st, with Detroit having 13 UFA's including Norris trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom, and both NHL netminders. Players with GR ties include Helmer, MacLean and Manlow. The Griffins also have 8 of their own free agents, most notably rookie blueliner Clay Wilson, who scored 10 goals as a freshman.
