Following his elite rookie performance - where he leapfrogged fellow prospects to command the starting role in the Calder Cup playoffs - Detroit enters training camp viewing him as a genuine option. Postava is engaged in a highly anticipated battle with top prospect Trey Augustine for the No. 1 starting job in Grand Rapids. Because he has already proven he can suppress professional shooters, Postava is aiming to push past minor - league deployment to challenge for Detroit's NHL backup spot behind John Gibson.
2025-26 Postava's rookie year was interrupted early by a knee injury, but once he returned, he quickly established himself as a legitimate NHL caliber goaltending prospect.
