What GRC says: Fall 2026 Brandsegg-Nygard is fully expected to establish himself as a permanent NHL middle-six winger for Detroit this season. Because he has already burned the first year of his entry-level contract and mastered the AHL level, general manager Steve Yzerman has carved out a direct roster pathway for him to bring much-needed defensive responsibility, elite shot utility, and physical edge to Detroit's secondary forward lines.
2025-26 Brandsegg Nygard arrived from Detroit and immediately became one of the most impactful players on the roster. His combination of size, physicality, and scoring touch made him a rare presence at the AHL level. After a steady first half, he elevated his offensive game down the stretch, finishing with 20 goals, including 12 in his final 29 games. He was one of the few players who raised his level in the postseason, leading the team with 4 goals and 8 points. His physical edge sharpened even further-he agitated opponents, initiated contact, and refused to back down from anyone. Given his production, tools, and playoff impact, he's very close to an NHL roster spot. It's likely that his time in the AHL is over.
