Organizational Comments:
What GRC says: Summer 2016 The former Colgate University captain, was a sought after free agent because of his work ethic and leadership. Borkowski is an underrated offensive performer who plays a complete game. He is likely to be reunited with his college linemates the Spink twins with the Toledo Walleye (ECHL), but could see some time in the AHL as well.
2016-17 Borkowski saw action in the second half over several other prospects, mainly due to his energy and work ethic. When he was in the lineup he hustled and was defensively responsible even if he didn't put up any offense to speak of. Spent six games in the ECHL and notched nine points, and also saw action in one Griffins playoff game. Borkowski is a free agent but is possible to return, as he seemed to earn coach Nelson's "trust. "
Fall 2017 A favorite of coach Nelson, Borkowski never stops hustling and won't be intimidated by anyone no matter how big. A defensive forward who plays with pace, the gritty banger is an impressive skater and a dogged fore-checker who always give 110% effort. He looks to be an extra forward starting the season, but like last year, expect that he will draw in at some point and get his games.
2017-18 A semi-regular last season, the Borkowski found himself in the ECHL for most of the year but excelled in an energy role after being recalled. He will do anything he can to help team, and pays an honest physical game. Not the most offensively blessed player, he creates turnovers and any scoring will be a result of that. Filled in admirably at center in the postseason with the team down to one natural center, he was solid in the faceoff circle and played defensively responsible. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the unrestricted free agent, but he was an impact player in the ECHL and a solid depth player for the Griffins.
