Personal:
Plus: Very aggressive player who likes to compete... Solid two way performer who uses his size... Defensively responsible... Not afraid to take punishment in front of the net... A big hitter... Very good in the faceoff dot...
Minus: eeds to fill out his frame... Not very offensively gifted...
Organizational Comments: Red Wings Asst GM Jim Nill: He's big, 6-4, he's grown seven inches in the last year and a half. Great size, strong skater. We like the physical presence he brings. His dad played in the NHL for the Wings. We just love his size.
What GRC says: 2015-16 The emerging power forward shattered his career best numbers, scoring 6 goals and 9 assists in the second half to give him 12 and 17, respectively. A key to the Griffins penalty kill, he was among the league leaders in shorthanded points. He did a great job centering the 4th line, at times the most effective line for this team, cycling the puck and throwing the other teams off balance with their counter-attack. He skates very well for his size and uses his 6'4 to its full advantage, throwing huge hits, winning battles in front and even dropping the gloves when necessary. An RFA, he should return next season, but with a solid start could see his first NHL recall.
2014-15 Great defensive player really came on in the second half and playoffs. Teams were very frustrated trying to deal with his size, strength, speed and ability to work the cycle. While he may never develop the offensive skills to complement his soft hands and good vision, there are nights he looks like there is still more to come. At the end of his entry level contract, Aubry could return for another season, especially since he has not played enough games to count against the veteran cap.
2013-14 Aubry saw significantly more time in the second half, but was unable to capture the form from his rookie season. He was tried on the wing with very little impact and lost playing time to rookies on tryouts at the end of the season. He has been in a free fall the last two seasons, and has one more year left on his entry-level contract to find his game. He will have a hard time beating out some of his competition and could find himself in the ECHL.
2012-13 Aubry gets around the ice well for such a big guy, and looks like a much better player than his numbers would indicate. He is a conscientious defensive center with great reach and good vision. He just always leaves you looking for more. Being sent to the bench for the second half of the post-season will hopefully be some motivation for Aubry to bring a little more intensity and take a step forward. Next season will be a pivotal one for the 6'4 center as it is the last on his entry-level contract.
2011-12 Aubry just kept getting better as the season went on and earned a regular spot at center the second half. The hulking pivot used his speed and his size to give the opposition fits in the offensive zone, keeping the puck deep and working the cycle. He was not afraid to play physical, crashing and banging as well as dropping the gloves on occasion. While he didn't end up with a pile of points, that may be more attributed to his line mates and role, as a stint on the top line also produced a three-point game. He has caught management's eye and if he keeps on improving at this rate may get an NHL look next season.
Fall 2011 A tall, lanky, two-way center, Aubry also has NHL bloodlines as the son of former Wing Pierre Aubry. He is an aggressive, physical player and should become even more difficult to play against as he fills out his 6'4 frame.
Role: Two-way Center
Projection: NHL 4th Line Center
