#31 Carter Gylander
 | |
Pos: G D.O.B.: 6/5/01 From: Edmonton, Alta Height: 6'5 Weight: 195 Shoots: Left Drafted: 2019 draft 7th rnd, 191st overall by Detroit Acquired: Signed to ATO contract by Grand Rapids (AHL) 3/19/24 |

| Plus: Massive Net Coverage & Frame: Gylander fills standard modern depth requirements beautifully. Standing at 6-foot-5, he covers a vast amount of the net inherently, making it exceptionally difficult for shooters to find clean clean looks when he handles angles properly... Calm & Calculated Demeanor: He relies on high-end structural technique and post-to-post butterfly coverage rather than hyper-scrambling desperation, carrying a calm maturity that reflects his four-year NCAA path... Reliable Workhorse Floor: He handles large workloads comfortably, spending the bulk of the last year anchoring Detroit's ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye, where he turned in a 20-9-5 record with two shutouts over 34 regular-season appearances...
| | Minus: Early-Game Visual Tracking: Scouts have occasionally noted minor lapses in his initial visual tracking during the opening sequences of games, requiring him to establish early rhythm to ensure his positioning doesn't fall slightly out of sync... Rebound Placement Control: Because of his lanky frame, low-slot puck management can sometimes get messy. Controlling heavy point shots and preventing primary dangerous rebounds from dropping straight into the low slot remains a professional focus... |
| Organizational Comments: Griffins Head Coach - Dan Watson "(Gylander) just keeps getting better. He's getting more comfortable every time he sees the net, whether in a game or practice, getting used to the pace of play... He's making saves at key moments." |
What GRC says: Fall 2026 For the 2026-27 season, Gylander is projected to share backup and foundational duties for the Grand Rapids Griffins alongside Michal Postava, while potentially splitting situational time back in Toledo to ensure he maintains a heavy volume of game starts. Signed to a two-way extension, he functions as an elite, high-floor safety blanket for the organization
2025-26 Thrown into action as an injury replacement for Postava, Gylander made the most of his opportunity and quickly turned heads. His calm presence and technical consistency stood out immediately, giving the Griffins stability during a turbulent stretch in the first half. Although his second half usage was limited to a single start, he made it count-earning another win and finishing the season with a remarkable 7 0 1 record, a 1.62 GAA, and a .942 save percentage. Among AHL goaltenders with more than three appearances, his numbers were the best in the league, underscoring just how sharp he was in limited action. Gylander's game is built on efficiency and composure. He tracks pucks cleanly, controls rebounds well and rarely overplays situations. His size and positioning allow him to stay square and make difficult saves look routine, traits that translate well to higher levels. A restricted free agent, Gylander has firmly established himself as a legitimate organizational prospect. With his strong showing this season, he is a realistic candidate to back up Postava in Grand Rapids next year, depending on how Detroit structures its goaltending depth chart.
