| The 1995 Detroit Red Wings training camp opened on September 10, 1995, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. It was a highly focused, business-like camp driven by a singular obsession: redemption after being swept by the New Jersey Devils in the 1995 Stanley Cup Final just a few months prior. The Wings invited 72 players to camp in 1995, 8 goaltenders, 22 defenseman and 42 forwards. Five of the 13 try-outs earned contracts in the organization, most notably Stacy Roest. Former Wing Lee Norwood attempting to come back from a serious leg injury, fell short and was not offered a contract. Mathieu Dandenault was the surprise in camp, making the Wings roster at 19 out of the QMJHL. He was joined by free agent signing Ben Hankinson who made the team as an extra, but didn't see a game before being sent down. |
