| The Wings have tentatively invited 66 players to camp. Their are 21 amateurs and 45 professionals. They are made up of 9 netminders, 21 defenseman and 36 forwards. Besides the parent club, players will be placed with one of the three farm clubs, The AHL's Adirondack Red Wings, Fort Wayne Komets (IHL), and the Toledo Storm (ECHL). Six players were invited to as try-outs to camp, but none earned a pro contract with the Wings. The club also was forced to deal defenseman Yves Racine and Stewart Malgunas before the start of the season due to a dearth of NHL calibre blueliners, rather than lose them for nothing in the waiver draft. Rookie center Greg Johnson, acquired over the summer from the Flyers, made the team out of camp as did fan favorite Darren McCarty, both starting their first NHL seasons. |
