| The Wings invited 55 players to camp in 1987, made up of 6 goalies, 22 defenseman, and 27 forwards. Veteran defender Harold Snepsts missed camp recovering from off-season surgery, and former Wing Tim Friday was invited to camp as a tryout, but his shoulder injury proved career ending and he did not attend either. One of the main undercurrents of training camp was the suspension of Joe Kocur for insubordination for most of camp. Combined with Bob Robert showing up to camp out of shape, paved the way for the additions of Steve Martinson and a tryout by former Wing Dwight Schofield. Joe Murphy and Adam Graves were the talk of camp, making the opening day roster before eventually being farmed out. |
