| 1984 was the beginning of the European invasion for Detroit. Fifty-four players were invited to camp veterans Milan Chalupa and Frantisek Cernik from Czechoslovakia, and two of the four players from Sweden taken by Detroit in the 1984 draft. Another prominent Czech rookie did not attend camp, but would go on to make a splash in the league the following year wearing his familiar #85, Petr Klima. Veterans Greg Joly, Paul Woods and Dennis Polonich were not invited to camp, instead they were assigned to Adirondack (AHL) directly along with injured rookie Carmine Vani. |
