| The wings invited 57 players to camp including first round draft choice Steve Yzerman, who would go on to become an icon in the sport. Troubled NHL'er Don Murdoch was in camp on a tryout basis and played well enough to earn a contract with Adirondack (AHL). Other notable names in camp were G Ken Holland who would rise through the ranks to become the teams GM, Paul Woods, the voice of the red wings on the radio, Colin Campbell, now an NHL Vice-president, Barry Melrose and future Jack Adams Trophy winner Ted Nolan. |
