| 2026 Training Camp Notes |
|---|
| Change would probably be the best descriptor of training camp 2026 for the Detroit Red Wings. To start with, the Wings have cancelled the longstanding tradition of breaking ice in Traverse City, instead hosting the prospects tournament and main camp in Detroit. Long time GM Steve Yzerman is no longer at the helm, having been kicked upstairs to an advisors role. Joining him on the outs is longtime captain Dylan Larkin who requested a trade, touching off the ire of the fans and costing him the 'C'. When he is moved is probably tied to when the team hires a new GM, with AGM Shawn Horcoff carrying the interim title. With just 49 players in camp, the organization has not included junior players or camp tryouts this year, only expected pro players in Detroit, Grand Rapids, or Toledo. The good news is that after completely dismantling the AHL Farm club, an impressive crop of young players has reported for duty. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Nate Danielson, Carter Mazur and Axel Sandin-Pelikka are expected to join Emmitt Finnie, Marco Kasper and Albert Johansson at some point on the NHL Roster. Dylan James, Jesse Kiiskinen, Carter Bear, Noah Dower-Nilsson, Anton Johansson and Trey Augustine arrive with a lot of buzz and hope.
