| 2021 Training Camp Notes |

| Detroit invited 69 players to its 2022 training camp, made up of 8 goaltenders, 21 defensemen, and 40 forwards. There were many new faces this time around thanks to a busy offseason of adding free agents and the #1 rated prospect pipeline producing viable players to audition for roster spots. The NHL depth was expanded by the additions of forwards Andrew Copp, David Perron, and Dominik Kubalik, while the backend was shored up by Ben Chiarot, Olli Maata, Robert Hagg, and Mark Pysyk (who was injured shortly after signing). Finally, Ville Husso was acquired from St. Louis to bolster the wings goaltending. The other big story was the arrival of several top prospects in D Simon Edvinsson, F Elmer Soderblom, and G Sebastien Cossa, and to a lesser extent D Eemil Viro, D Albert Johansson, F Pontus Andreasson, and F Cross Hanas. Nine players were brought in as camp try-outs with D Jeremy Biakabutuka the most impressive of the lot. Several players were recovering from injuries and could not take part in regular practices, including Robby Fabbri, Andrew Copp, Oskar Sundqvist, Mark Pysyk, Jake Walman, and Tnias Mathurin, while forward Chase Pearson missed camp due to personal reasons.
