| 2003 Training Camp Notes |

The Wings invited 67 players to camp, three were no-shows, two due to a minor league players union strike. The roster is made up of 17 amateurs and 50 professionals. Positionally, 9 netminders, 20 defenseman and 38 forwards were invited to camp. Besides the parent club, players will be placed with one of the two farm clubs, The AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, and the Toledo Storm (ECHL).
Notable newcomers in camp this year included Hulking defenseman Derian Hatcher, high touted rookie Jiri Hudler, slick winger Ray Whitney, and future Eddie Shore trophy winner Niklas Kronwall. Of the nine junior players brought in to camp as tryouts, none earned a contract with Detroit. Carsen Germyn and David Brisson auditioned for Grand Rapids, with Brisson earning an AHL deal. Germyn signed with another organization and reached the NHL with the Flames in 2005. |
