#36 Zach Nastasiuk
Pos: RW
D.O.B.: 3/30/95
From: Barrie, Ont
Height: 6'1
Weight: 190
Shoots: Right
Drafted: 2013 draft 2nd rnd, 48th overall by Detroit (NHL)
Acquired: Signed to 3-yr contract by Detroit (NHL) 11/11/13
Personal:
Plus: Smart player... Very competetive... Sacrifices body to block shots and battle... Accomplished penalty killer... Uses frame to protect puck on the cycle... Great work ethic... Pressures well on forecheck and does a lot of good things away from the puck...
Minus: Skating lacks explosiveness... Offensive upside looks limited as a pro...
Organizational Comments: Chris Edwards - NHL Central Scouting He does something to contribute to win every shift. He's an excellent penalty killer and uses his long reach very well, is smart in his ability to be in the right place. Earlier in the year, I would have called him a puck chaser, but he played with purpose and made a big jump over the second half of the season. I think he could end up becoming a big pro.
What GRC says: 2015-16 Nastasiuk split the season between the AHL and ECHL in his first pro season. After a lackluster first half he found his offensive game in the ECHL and showed a little spark in limited time with the Griffins scoring his first 3 AHL goals. A banger who excels at the defensive side of the game, Nastasiuk should be a regular in the lineup next season on the 3rd or 4th line. His footspeed, though improved, remains the hurdle he will have to overcome next.
2014-15 Before being felled by a concussion on a brutal hit in the playoffs, Nastasiuk had staked a claim as a regular in the lineup late in the season, following the conclusion of his Jr Career. The speedy forward played with an edge and paid the price to go to the high traffic areas. His responsible play, work ethic and grit earned him a look on special teams where he was not out of place. Next season will be his first as a pro, but his three zone game should allow him to make the adjustment until his scoring comes on-line.
Spring 2014 A classic OHL forward, Nastasiuk plays both ways and is known for his hardnosed play. He has a good frame and his play away from the puck is as good or better than his offensive game. He will use his limited AHL experience this spring to fuel his development next year when he returns to Jr hockey.
Role: Two-way Forward
Projection: NHL 4th Line wing
